Commercial Fire Damage Case Study

Problem

A fire in a restaurant caused considerable damage to both the restaurant itself and the flat above it. We were instructed by both the freeholder and the restaurateur to deal with the various aspects of loss.
The freeholder was concerned with damage to the building and the loss of rent from the tenant in the flat as well as from the restaurant. The restaurateur had a substantial claim for Contents, Tenants Improvements as well as Business Interruption.

How we helped

We were able to identify quickly the various areas of responsibility and we assisted all parties by preparing the claims and negotiating against the different Loss Adjusters appointed by the various Insurance companies.

Result

The freeholder saw that the value of his investment property was protected.
The restaurateur was saved from the financial impact of having to close the restaurant until the reinstatement works had been completed. Furthermore, the restaurateur turned the crisis into an opportunity by refurbishing the restaurant with a new design.
